Me with my girlfriend, Brenna, my son, Drew, and our 3 dogs, Brady (on my lap), Jester (on Brenna), and Clementine (with Drew) on our way to visit my family in New Orleans.
Welcome to Fartleks and 5ks
Hi, my name is Doug! I feel like I'm your typical middle age guy. I like to spend time with my family, stay active, and travel, but I also love the lazy stuff, like watching movies, playing video games, and eating junk food. Lately, staying active had fallen by the wayside, and I started to notice my metabolism wasn't quite what it used to be. I grew up playing soccer and running quite frequently, so I could easily down a bag of Double Stuf Oreos in a night without worry. Man, does that change when you're approaching 40!

In May I started to eat healthier, switching out things like pancakes and (lots of) syrup for oatmeal and blueberries for breakfast. In June I started to exercise more. I began running on some days and walking our dog on others. Since the beginning of July, my goal has been to complete a 5k workout, at minimum, per day. My workout on most days consists of a run, while others it may be a brisk walk with the dog or even a hike. The goal is simply 5k worth of deliberate exercise per day. (None of this pocket track my steps as I walk around doing random stuff throughout the day. You've got to purposely sweat for it to be a workout.)
I decided to share my daily runs and workouts in case there are people who are looking for some motivation and some easy workouts to get started. Everyone is at a different level. I know I'm not the fastest and I'm not the slowest, and that really doesn't matter. The goal is to get out there and better yourself. Get healthier, get stronger, feel better, be happier.
